Founded in 1909, Arkansas State University is building on its first one hundred years and looking to the future with cutting-edge research capabilities and preparing the next generation of leaders with a commitment toward a global mindset. A-State is being transformed into a destination university, with several projects recently completed, underway or planned for the near future.
Arkansas State University offers 172 degree programs, from Associate’s to Doctoral degrees, in 11 colleges. There are more than 6,500 courses for students to choose from each year. With a 19:1 student-to-faculty ratio, closer connections with faculty members are the norm. And 85% of the faculty hold the highest degree possible in their field of study. With approximately 800 international students on campus, more than 58 countries are represented in the student population.
A-State has excellent engineering and business programs, with five types of engineering degrees. Four bachelor degree programs in engineering and two master’s degree programs are offered. The MBA program helps prepare for management positions in all types of organizations, with emphasis areas in healthcare administration, management information systems, supply chain management, and international business.
Arkansas State University offers a direct admit English Language Academy, meaning that upon completion of the ELA program, students can automatically enroll in coursework for their degree at A-State. So if you’re English Language test scores are low, you can attend the ELA at A-State and then dive right into your college education. Students can even directly enroll in graduate level coursework as long as they meet the other guidelines for their program of study. Students in the ELA program also have access to all A-State facilities and services, conversation partners, tutoring, and special ESL student organizations.
International Student Services
The International Student Services Office provides a variety of services to students, including help with immigration and international student health insurance. Additionally, the office provides shuttle services, both to and from Memphis International Airport and around town with the shopping shuttle. The shopping shuttle run three times a week during fall and spring semesters to the mall, grocery stores and a bank. Plus on Saturdays the shuttle makes stops downtown, at the bowling center, and at the movie theatre.
Arkansas State University is an NCAA Division I school, with 16 athletic teams. Students can also participate in the over 300 student organizations, and over 150 on-campus events and activities each year, including concerts at the Convocation Center. There are 23 total intramural sports, with 11 in the fall and 12 in the spring, for students to participate in.
Jonesboro, AR has a population of more than 70,000 with something for everyone. There are 18 parks and community centers, a 15-screen movie theater, multiple sporting venues, and plenty of dancing and nightlife.
